About Coppice Ashdown 5ft 3in x 4ft 9in Apex Painted Wooden Greenhouse

The Coppice Ashdown Apex Painted Wooden Greenhouse (CCAP1448X1600PBUN) measures 1.6m wide x 1.45m deep (5ft 3in x 4ft 9in). That footprint fits neatly into a compact garden corner while still giving you a proper growing space. Professional installation is included in the price so you won't need to spend a weekend wrestling with instructions.

The frame is built from 44mm x 44mm R4C timber framing with 12mm pressure treated cladding finished in grey paint. Glazing is 3mm toughened glass throughout including the door. That combination handles wind and rain well and lets in strong natural light. The door is right-hand hinged with chrome handles and a 3-lever mortice lock.

Two opening roof vents sit on either side of the apex to regulate temperature. 2-shelf staging is included with brackets to fix it to the frame. In a greenhouse this size you can realistically grow tomatoes peppers herbs and overwinter tender plants. Seed trays fit well on the staging in spring.

This is a well-built timber greenhouse with professional installation toughened glass and included staging. Annual wood retreatment keeps it protected. Optional guttering and a second door are available as upgrades.

Technical Details

The frame uses 44mm x 44mm R4C timber sections which give a solid structural base without excessive bulk. The 12mm cladding is pressure treated to resist rot then painted grey. Glazing is 3mm toughened glass fixed into the frame toughened glass is stronger than horticultural glass and safer if broken. The apex roof pitch sheds rain efficiently. Two opening vents on either side of the ridge release heat by convection. The clip installation system locks components together firmly to resist wind loading across the structure.

Materials & Construction

The frame is pressure treated softwood timber with 44mm x 44mm R4C sections and 12mm cladding finished in grey paint. All glazing including the door is 3mm toughened glass. The roof is also fully glazed with the same toughened glass specification.

Base & Foundation

No base or flooring is included. You must prepare a level concrete slab or firm paved surface before the installation team arrives. The greenhouse has no floor so the ground must be flat and stable. All base preparation is the buyer's responsibility before the installation date.

Assembly Guide

Professional installation is included in the price. Coppice's own installation team builds the greenhouse using a clip installation system. You do not need to self-assemble or source a separate installer. Arrange a level base beforehand and the team will handle the rest. All fixings and components are supplied as part of the product.

Growing Guide

The floor area of 1.6m x 1.45m fits two standard grow bags side by side. That gives you space for four to six tomato or pepper plants on the floor in summer. The included 2-shelf staging adds surface area for seed trays in spring you can fit a dozen or more trays across both shelves. In winter use the floor space for overwintering tender perennials in pots. Herbs and salad crops grow well on the staging year round. It is a small but practical growing space.

Maintenance & Care

Retreat the timber once a year to protect against rot and fungal decay this is a warranty condition. Clean the glass panels regularly to keep light levels high. Check vent hinges and the mortice lock each season. If guttering is fitted clear it of debris in autumn. Annual treatment keeps the frame in good condition long term.

Making the Most of the Space

At 1.6m x 1.45m this greenhouse fits into a corner or along a fence without taking over the garden. Leave clearance on the right-hand side for the door to open fully and enough room above the apex vents to operate them. It should not be pushed flat against a wall on the door side. The staging makes the most of the interior so bench and floor space together give you more growing area than the footprint suggests.

Frequently Asked Questions

Professional installation is included in the price and Coppice's own installation team assembles it using a clip installation system. You do not need to arrange a separate installer or build it yourself.
No base or flooring is included so you will need to prepare a level concrete slab or firm paved surface before the installation team arrives. The greenhouse is designed without flooring so the ground preparation is entirely the buyer's responsibility.
The greenhouse uses 3mm toughened glass throughout including the door panels. Toughened glass is significantly stronger than standard horticultural glass and breaks into small blunt pieces rather than sharp shards making it safer around children.
Two opening roof vents are positioned on either side of the apex roof allowing warm air to escape and fresh air to circulate. The hinged door can also be left open to increase airflow during hot weather.
The footprint is 1.6m wide x 1.45m deep which is compact enough to sit in a corner or against a fence line. You will need clearance on the door side to open it fully and enough space around the vents to operate them without obstruction.
The 3mm toughened glass and pressure treated 12mm timber cladding provide reasonable insulation for overwintering tender plants. For frost-sensitive plants a small electric heater or bubble wrap insulation on the inside panels will help maintain temperatures during hard frosts.
This greenhouse comes with a 1-year warranty from Coppice. The warranty requires the owner to retreat the timber annually to keep it protected from rot and fungal decay.
The timber must be retreated once a year to protect it from rot and fungal decay as stated in the warranty conditions. You should also clean the glass panels to maintain light transmission and check that the vent hinges and door lock are operating correctly.
