Halls Popular 66 6x6 Small Aluminium Greenhouse (1.93m x 1.95m)

The Halls Popular 66 is a 6x6 aluminium apex greenhouse measuring 1.93m x 1.95m that's a 3.8m² base area. SO0170 is one of Halls' best-selling small greenhouses and works well in compact gardens where space is tight. It comes with 3mm horticultural glass as standard but can be upgraded to toughened safety glass or 4mm twinwall UV-stabilised polycarbonate.

The frame is low-maintenance aluminium with diagonal bracing for wind resistance. Glazing fits with clips and rubber gaskets making installation straightforward. The eaves sit at 1.22m and the ridge reaches 1.96m. A smooth-running 600mm sliding door gives easy access.

Ventilation comes from one roof vent. An auto-opener is available separately and adjusts the vent by temperature. No staging is included but 1-tier or 2-tier powder-coated aluminium staging is available as an add-on. A 3-tier seed tray frame holding 15 trays is also available. Tomatoes, peppers and seedlings all suit this size well.

A 12-year frame guarantee backs the aluminium structure. Integral gutters manage rainwater. An optional steel base adds stability. This is a practical starter greenhouse with solid construction and a proven track record.

The frame is aluminium with diagonal cross-bracing built into the structure to resist racking in wind. Glazing sits in the frame using clips and rubber gaskets no putty is needed and panels can be replaced individually. Standard 3mm horticultural glass is single skin. The 4mm twinwall polycarbonate upgrade adds a second skin for better insulation. The apex roof sheds rain efficiently and integral gutters channel water away. This greenhouse arrives flat packed for DIY assembly. Two people are needed and the job takes an estimated 2 to 4 hours. Glazing fits using clips and rubber gaskets no specialist tools required. Instructions are supplied. No anchor kit is included so you will need to factor in fixing to the base or ground separately if required.

The 3.8m² floor gives room for two standard grow bags side by side that's up to 6 tomato or pepper plants on the floor alone. Add a 1-tier staging shelf along one side and you gain a full bench for seed trays in spring. The 3-tier seed tray frame holds 15 trays and fits within the footprint. In summer use the floor for tomatoes, cucumbers or aubergines. In autumn clear the staging and overwinter tender fuchsias, pelargoniums or citrus plants. The 1.96m ridge gives enough headroom for tall cordon tomatoes.

The aluminium frame needs no painting or annual treatment. Clean the glazing each season to keep light levels high. Check the roof vent opens and closes freely. Clear the integral gutters of debris in autumn. No specific maintenance is listed as a condition of the 12-year frame guarantee but keeping the structure clean and clear is good practice.

At 1.93m x 1.95m this greenhouse fits into a corner of a small garden without dominating it. The sliding door needs no swing clearance which saves space on the entry side. Leave at least 600mm on the door side to open it fully. The roof vent opens upward so no side clearance is needed for ventilation. Placing it against a fence on one side is workable as long as the door and vent remain accessible.
