About Forest Garden Wallscape 4ft x 4ft Lean-To Greenhouse with Solid Back

The Forest Garden Wallscape is a 4' x 4' lean-to greenhouse (1.28m x 1.34m) with a solid timber back panel. LTGH44SBHDBUN is built for courtyards and patios where space is tight. At just over 1.2m wide and 1.3m deep it fits where a standard greenhouse simply won't. The solid back panel adds structural rigidity and retains heat better than a glazed rear wall making it a practical pick for year-round growing.

The frame is 28mm x 28mm rough-sawn timber clad in 12mm shiplap tongue-and-groove boards. Pressure treatment is applied at the factory and a 15-year anti-rot guarantee is included so no retreatment is needed. Glazing is acrylic throughout lightweight, shatterproof and scratch-resistant. It outperforms standard horticultural glass on safety and clarity. The shiplap's interlocking profile seals out wind and rain.

A large opening roof vent regulates temperature when things heat up. The single door fits at either end of the structure. Five windows let in good light across the growing area. No staging is included but a wooden potting bench is available as an optional extra. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and overwintered tender plants all suit this size.

FSC-certified timber, acrylic glazing and a 15-year anti-rot guarantee make this a well-specified lean-to for small gardens. Built in the UK. No floor is supplied.

Technical Details

The 28mm x 28mm sawn timber frame is the structural core. Twelve-millimetre shiplap boards interlock tightly over it creating a weatherproof shell without the need for additional sealing. The pent roof pitches away from the wall to shed rainwater. Acrylic panels are 28mm thick on the roof and standard thickness on the walls acrylic flexes slightly under impact rather than shattering. The solid timber back panel braces the structure against racking in wind. The manual roof vent is hinged and held open by a stay arm to allow controlled airflow without the vent slamming shut.

Materials & Construction

The frame is 28mm x 28mm FSC-certified pressure-treated timber. Cladding is 12mm shiplap tongue-and-groove boards in natural rough-sawn finish. Glazing is acrylic shatterproof and scratch-resistant. The roof is also acrylic at 28mm thickness. The solid back panel is timber board construction matching the cladding profile.

Base & Foundation

No base or floor is included with this greenhouse. You must prepare a firm level base before assembly a concrete slab or solid paving is suitable. The base becomes the floor surface. Ground preparation is entirely the buyer's responsibility and must be completed before delivery arrives.

Assembly Guide

This greenhouse arrives flat packed with all fixings and instructions included. It is a DIY self-assembly product professional installation is not included as standard though an installation service is available separately. Two people are strongly recommended given the packaged weight of 115 kg and the panel sizes involved. Allow a full day for assembly. No specialist tools are required.

Growing Guide

The 1.18m x 1.24m base gives enough floor space for two standard grow bags side by side. That means up to six tomato or pepper plants on the floor alone. A potting bench accessory (1.08m x 0.52m) fits neatly inside and adds a working surface for seed trays in spring. In summer use the floor for tomatoes, cucumbers or chillies. In autumn and winter the solid back and acrylic glazing hold heat well enough to overwinter tender perennials, dahlia tubers and half-hardy fuchsias.

Maintenance & Care

The pressure-treated frame needs no annual retreatment. Clean the acrylic glazing with a soft cloth and mild soapy water avoid abrasive cleaners which will scratch the panels. Check the roof vent opens and closes freely each spring. Clear debris from around the base to stop moisture sitting against the cladding. Normal use and no physical damage are expected to maintain the 15-year guarantee.

Making the Most of the Space

At 1.28m wide and 1.34m deep this is one of the smallest walk-in greenhouses available. The solid back panel means it sits directly against a wall or fence with no wasted gap at the rear. You need roughly 600mm clearance at the front to open the door fully. The door can be positioned at either end to suit your access. Despite the small footprint you get standing headroom of nearly 2m at the ridge.
