About Forest Garden 4ft x 2ft Mini Lean To Wooden Greenhouse (1.2m x 0.62m)

The Forest Garden Mini Lean To Greenhouse MGHHD measures 1.2m x 0.62m (4ft x 2ft) with a pent roof. That footprint fits neatly on a decking, balcony or patio where a full-size greenhouse simply won't go. The base is sized to take a standard grow bag so you get real growing space despite the compact dimensions.

The frame is planed European softwood from managed resources and is vacuum pressure treated by the manufacturer. Shiplap tongue and groove cladding locks together tightly to keep out wind and rain. All glazing is safety styrene. The pent roof sits at 1443mm at the back and 1163mm at the front giving a clean slope for rain run-off.

Two independently opening split lids each have their own timber prop for ventilation control. Two internal slatted shelves are included so you can grow seedlings and cuttings at bench height. The double doors open to 537mm wide and fasten with button catches. Tomatoes, peppers and herbs all work well here.

A 15 year anti-rot guarantee backs the pressure treated timber. Two slatted shelves, lid handles, door catches, fixings and instructions are all included. No floor is supplied so a solid level base is needed before assembly.

Technical Details

The pent roof slopes from 1443mm at the back down to 1163mm at the front. That angle sheds rainwater and maximises light entry on the glazed lid panels. The shiplap tongue and groove cladding interlocks along each board edge which braces the side walls and resists racking in wind. Safety styrene glazing is set into the split lids and is lighter than glass with no sharp break risk. Each lid is held open by a dedicated timber prop. The vacuum pressure treatment penetrates deep into the softwood fibres rather than sitting on the surface which gives the 15 year anti-rot performance.

Materials & Construction

The frame and cladding are planed European softwood from managed resources. The cladding is shiplap tongue and groove profile. The timber is vacuum pressure treated by the manufacturer. All glazing panels are safety styrene. Metal fixings are silver coloured steel. No glass is used anywhere in the structure.

Base & Foundation

No floor is supplied with this greenhouse. You must prepare a solid level base before assembly a concrete slab or firm paving is suitable. The base width is 1200mm and depth 620mm. Site preparation is entirely the buyer's responsibility. A solid base is essential for the frame to sit correctly and stay stable.

Assembly Guide

Self-assembly is required. All fixings and instructions are included in the box. Forest Garden estimates assembly takes between one and three hours. Two people are recommended to hold panels in position during fixing. No professional installation is included as standard though an installation service is available separately through the retailer.

Growing Guide

The 1.2m x 0.62m floor fits one standard grow bag. That gives you two or three tomato or pepper plants on the floor. The two included slatted shelves handle seed trays in spring expect to fit six to eight standard trays across both shelves. In summer move tomatoes to the floor and use the shelves for herbs or chillies. In autumn and winter the shelves are ideal for overwintering tender perennials and rooted cuttings that need frost protection.

Maintenance & Care

The vacuum pressure treated timber does not need retreatment to keep the 15 year guarantee valid. Treating the timber periodically will extend the product life beyond the guarantee period. Clean the safety styrene glazing with warm soapy water to maintain light transmission. Check lid props and door catches each season and replace any damaged fixings promptly.

Making the Most of the Space

At 1.2m wide and 0.62m deep this greenhouse sits against a wall or fence without blocking a path. You need roughly 600mm clearance in front to open the double doors fully. The split lids open upward so no side clearance is needed for ventilation. Despite the small footprint you get two shelf levels plus floor space more usable growing area than the external dimensions suggest.

Frequently Asked Questions

No floor is supplied with this greenhouse so you must prepare a solid level base yourself before building. A concrete slab or firm paving is recommended to give the timber frame stable support.
Forest Garden states assembly takes between one and three hours and all fixings and instructions are included in the box. Two people will make the job easier particularly when holding panels square during fixing.
All glazing on the MGHHD is safety styrene rather than glass so there is no risk of sharp shards if it is knocked or cracked. Safety styrene is lightweight and transmits good levels of light for plant growth.
The two split lids open independently and each has its own timber prop to hold it at the angle you choose. The double doors can also be left open to increase airflow on warm days.
Forest Garden provides a 15 year anti-rot guarantee on the pressure treated timber. The vacuum pressure treatment is applied by the manufacturer so you do not need to retreat the timber to maintain the guarantee though treating it periodically will extend the product life further.
The base width is 1200mm (1.2m) and the depth is 620mm (0.62m). The front height is 1163mm and the back height is 1443mm giving a pent roof slope that sheds rainwater effectively.
The base fits a standard grow bag so one or two tomato or pepper plants can grow on the floor. The two included slatted shelves are ideal for seed trays in spring and for overwintering tender plants and cuttings through autumn and winter.
All metal fixings supplied with the MGHHD are silver not black. This is worth noting if you are matching the greenhouse to other garden structures or fittings.
