About Coppice Ashdown Apex Wooden Greenhouse 8'3 x 9'4 (2.52m x 2.85m)

The Coppice Ashdown Apex Wooden Greenhouse (CCAP2845X2515OBUN) measures 2.52m x 2.85m (8'3 x 9'4) giving you a solid floor area of just over 7 square metres. That is a genuinely useful growing space in a modest garden. Professional installation is included in the price so you do not need to organise a build team.

The frame is built from 44mm x 44mm R4C timber with 12mm cladding throughout. All wood is coated in a microporous oil and pressure treated to breathe while resisting rot. Glazing is 3mm toughened glass on both the roof and walls. The toughened glass door is right-hand hinged with chrome handles and hinges and a 3-lever mortice lock.

Two opening vents sit on either side of the apex roof to regulate temperature. 2-shelf staging is included with brackets to fix it directly to the frame. You can realistically grow tomatoes peppers cucumbers and salad crops here across spring and summer.

This greenhouse suits gardeners who want a well-built timber structure with real security and proper glazing. Free UK delivery is included. Optional upgrades include side staging guttering and a second door.

Technical Details

The frame uses 44mm x 44mm R4C section timber which gives a stiff and square structure. The 12mm cladding is coated in microporous oil and pressure treated so moisture can escape without the wood rotting from inside. Glazing is 3mm toughened glass throughout including the roof panels and door. Toughened glass is cut to size and set into the frame sections. Two apex roof vents are hinged to open manually and release heat build-up. The clip installation system locks components together quickly and accurately reducing the risk of a poorly aligned frame.

Materials & Construction

The frame is pressure treated softwood timber with 44mm x 44mm R4C section profiles and 12mm cladding boards. All timber is coated in a microporous oil. Glazing throughout including the roof walls and door is 3mm toughened safety glass. No polycarbonate is used anywhere on this greenhouse.

Base & Foundation

No base or flooring is included. You must prepare a level concrete slab or solid paved surface before the installation team arrives. The greenhouse is designed without flooring so the ground preparation is entirely down to you. Get this done before your installation date to avoid delays.

Assembly Guide

Professional installation by Coppice's own team is included in the price. They use a clip installation system which speeds up the build considerably. You do not need to be present for the whole build but the site must be ready with a level base. All fixings and components are supplied. No specific build time is quoted by the manufacturer.

Growing Guide

The 2.52m x 2.85m floor gives you room for two standard grow bags side by side with space to walk past. That means up to six tomato or pepper plants on the floor alone. The two-shelf staging adds surface area for seed trays in late winter and early spring. In summer use the floor for tall crops like cucumbers and the staging for pots of herbs or chillies. In autumn clear the staging and use it to overwinter tender perennials and pot-grown fuchsias away from frost.

Maintenance & Care

Retreat the timber frame once a year with a suitable wood preservative to guard against rot and fungal decay. This is a warranty condition so do not skip it. Clean the toughened glass panels with soapy water to keep light levels high. Check that the roof vents open and close freely each spring.

Making the Most of the Space

At 2.52m x 2.85m this greenhouse fits into a garden plot without dominating it. Sit it on a level slab away from overhanging trees. Allow at least 600mm on the door side to open it fully and the same on the vent sides. It should not be pushed tight against a fence as the timber needs airflow around it. The floor area of just over 7 square metres delivers two staging shelves plus full floor growing space.

Frequently Asked Questions

Professional installation by Coppice's own team is included in the price using a clip installation system. You do not need to arrange your own builders or set aside a weekend for assembly.
The greenhouse is designed without flooring so you must prepare a level base before installation. A concrete slab or solid paved area is recommended to give the frame a stable and level foundation.
Two opening vents are positioned on either side of the apex roof allowing warm air to escape and cooler air to circulate. There are no automatic openers included as standard but the door can also be left open to increase airflow.
Toughened glass is significantly stronger than standard horticultural glass and if it does break it shatters into small blunt pieces rather than sharp shards. This makes it a safer choice where children or pets use the garden regularly.
At 2.52m wide and 2.85m deep the greenhouse takes up just over 7 square metres of ground. You should allow at least 600mm clearance on the door side and vent sides to open them fully without obstruction.
The 3mm toughened glass and pressure treated 44mm frame provide reasonable insulation for overwintering tender plants. For frost-sensitive plants you would benefit from adding a small electric heater as the structure is not insulated beyond the glass itself.
The wood must be retreated once a year with a suitable preservative to protect against rot and fungal decay. Failing to do this annually may affect the 1-year warranty so it is worth keeping a record of when you treat it.
You can add side staging guttering and a second door for the opposite gable end at the point of ordering. Guttering is particularly useful if you want to collect rainwater into a water butt for irrigating your plants.
